A new story block is to be added to Kettering’s timeline in Market Place to help commemorate the Olympic Torch’s trip through the borough last year.

The block will be the first new one to be added since the timeline’s installation during the revamp of Market Place.

The Olympic Torch visited Kettering, Geddington and Dingley in July last year.

The Mayor of Kettering, James Hakewill, will unveil the new block on Tuesday (May 7) at 10am.

Cllr Hakewill said: “I am delighted to be concluding my year as Mayor by recognising one of the most historic recent events for the Borough.

“The laying of this new story block in the timeline will be a permanent reminder of the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Kettering Borough.

“It brings the timeline up to date for present and future visitors to the Market Place, who will be able to follow the significant events in the Borough’s history right up to 2012.”

“As people enjoy walking along the timeline they will be able to remember, or imagine, what it was like on that day when thousands of people lined the streets around our Borough to welcome the Olympic flame on its way to London 2012.”
