New pub focusing on community spirit has opened in Northamptonshire following a family refurbishment

Polly Hadman, licensee of the Saxon Tavern in Earls Barton has often worked as a barmaid since the age of 15 and decided to open a pub in the village with a “community feel.”

The building, which is a one room public house, took Mrs Hadman’s family 27 days to fully refurbish and has been opened to the public for almost a week.

She said: “I have always lived in Earls Barton so it’s the perfect spot for me to open a pub. I wanted the pub to have a community feel, where it’s comfortable for my customers to enjoy themselves.

“It’s been absolutley chaos, we have worked straight through from opening to 10.30pm every night, which is great.”

The pub, which opened on Thursday October 27, sells a selection of real ale - as well as wine and cider - which is stocked behind the bar in barrels.

The licensee, decided to name the public house after the Saxon tower attached to the church in the village.

She adds: “My best friend is a barmaid and we wanted to make it a friendly place for people to come. I’m thinking about hosting Macmillan coffee mornings soon.”

The micropub is closed both on Monday and Tuesday and opens to the public on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 5pm until 11pm.

On weekends the pub opens at lunchtime and serves drinks until 11pm.
