She said: “I can’t quite believe it. It’s been a bit strange.

“It’s the first serious thing I’ve written. I knew my husband and my best friend would buy it but the rest has been a surprise!

“I started out by applying a women’s mentoring project and ended up with a mentor called Louise Walters. I sent out a sample to publishers and they all requested the full manuscript.

“A friend recommended I sent it to Bookouture. They were already aware of my writing because I do flash fiction on my blog, which they follow, and they wanted to publish it.

“Before it was published it was sent out to book reviewers and thankfully the response was very positive so that really helped me on Amazon.”

The Sister is now number one Kindle book on Amazon, ahead of established authors including John Grisham with The Racketeer and Paula Hawkins with The Girl on The Train.

Louise, whose children are 10, 18 and 21, has now started writing her second novel. She said: “It’s quite tough for authors to earn a living from their writing but I do love my day job so I’ll be continuing in that.

“I’m hoping that the next book will be out in time for Christmas.”
