The former Warehouse Clearance Superstore, opposite Kettering General Hospital, is to become a budget gym.
The building, which has been empty since October 2014, will feature a large cardio vascular exercise area, two studios, a ladies’ only gym area, and large functional training and free weights sections.
Simply Gym, which runs nine gyms nationwide including ones in Telford, Coventry and Swindon, has taken on the lease to the 14,000 square foot premises and hopes to open to the public on September 1.
Half a million pounds will be spent refitting the building.
One of Simply Gym’s directors, Andy Hastings, said: “We are particularly looking forward to opening in Kettering because of the size, look and open plan feel of the building, the lack of low cost gym provision in the area, and the great potential that we believe there is in the town.
“We intend to start selling membership from the end of June, the standard cost will be just £16.99 per month for anytime access including classes, and there’s no minimum contract.
“We already have gyms in the Midlands with two further sites set to open early next year, so opening in Kettering makes perfect sense.
“The main gym area in Kettering will hold nearly 100 pieces of gym equipment and there will also be a separate ladies’ gym area, a large studio for fitness classes, a separate studio for spinning and changing rooms.
“Personal training will also be available and all members will have free parking on site.
“We moved very quickly when this unit became available, thankfully we were able to agree a deal with the landlord and recently obtained planning permission.
“We have been delighted with the support we have had for our plans in Kettering so far.
“We hope to create up to 30 jobs by opening this club and will be looking to start recruiting trainers, receptionists and so on very soon.”
Simply Gym describes itself as low-cost gym operator offering memberships without contract from £16.99 per month.
The company’s first club was established in Cheltenham in 2011.
