New fund available to support talented sports stars across Northamptonshire

Talented young sports stars across Northamptonshire could benefit from a new pot of money set up to help their development.

The Mick and Sheila White Fund plans to award grants from £500 up to a possible £5,000 to provide support for young people driven to excel in their sporting career.

Working with the Northamptonshire Community Foundation, the cash can support travel expenses for sporting events and tournaments, the cost of purchasing new equipment, clothing, specialist coaching and any other essential requirements to smooth their passage.

Mick White said: “Supporting young people in sport has always been a great passion of mine. I am very much a local man, born and brought up in the town so it is important to me to give a little bit back, helping youth progress in the county and beyond.”

Northamptonshire Community Foundation is now searching for potential recipients.

Victoria Miles CEO of Northamptonshire Community Foundation said, “We are delighted Mick and Sheila are working with the Foundation to help them give to a cause close to their hearts; helping young people to achieve in their chosen sport. Their generous donation is setting up this fund and will make a huge difference to young sports people and grassroots community sports projects here in Northamptonshire.”

Wheelchair tennis player Dermot Bailey, who will jet out to Rio de Janeiro in September as an observer to the Great Britain’s Paralympic team, is to be the first beneficiary of the fund.
