A new boss is at the helm of organising Wellingborough’s Poppy Appeal.
Laura Martin has taken over from Denise Barnett, who has retired from the post after seven years.
Miss Barnett will now take up the role of secretary of the Wellingborough branch of the Royal British Legion.
She said: “Both roles have grown so much that I couldn’t have done both.
“I had been putting in 60 hours a week during the two weeks of the Poppy Appeal.”
All members of the Wellingborough branch wished to express their thanks to Miss Barnett for her work as appeal organiser over the years, and wish her successor well.
The news comes after members were awarded for the second year running for the being the most improved county branch during the Poppy Appeal.
The Albert Franklin Memorial Cup was awarded to the branch after it raised more than £32,000 for the Poppy Appeal in 2010-11.
The branch smashed the previous year’s total of £24,500, making it the most improved collection figure of any British Legion branch in Northamptonshire.
