Hundreds of shoppers have visited Corby’s new Tesco store on its opening day.
The new supermarket opened its doors for the first time this morning (Thursday, January 24) at 8am but the official opening was held just after 10am.
Corby mayor Mohammed Rahman, Corby MP Andy Sawford and store manager George King cut the ribbon outside the shop.
Visitors were greeted to the new store by bagpiper Rob Muir.
Mr Sawford said the new supermarket had provided lots of new jobs for the town.
He added: “I hope the new employees go on to have good careers in retail.
“I think it is really important that this new store goes on and makes a contribution to the community.”
Representative from the Lakelands Hospice and the Corby Air Cadets were also at the opening. Both organisations were presented with cheques of £500.
Our video above shows photographers, including the Telegraph’s Alison Bagley, at the opening.
