New clergy to be ordained this weekend

Seven new clergy will be ordained as deacons in the Peterborough Diocese which covers Northamptonshire on Saturday, June 30.

The group includes a professional wine dealer and a much-travelled nurse who was once held hostage in Indonesia.

Ruth Bond will be assistant curate of Irthlingborough, Great and Little Addington, and Woodford.

Mrs Bond was born in Zimbabwe and also lived in Indonesia, Nigeria and Scotland as a child.

During her time overseas she was held hostage in Indonesia and air-lifted out by the RAF, and also had several exits as a refugee from Nigeria during the Biafran war.

Coming from a strong Christian family, she trained as a nurse, has been involved in hospice palliative care, and is married to a doctor.

Mr Greg Shaw will be a part time curate of Yardley Hastings, Denton and Grendon with Castle Ashby and Whiston.

He has run his own mail order wine business since 2004 which employs three staff. Originally from north Dorset, he has lived in Northampton for 20 years.

The ceremony wil be held at Peterborough Cathedral.
