The new chairman for East Northants Council for the coming 12 months has been chosen.
Cllr Marika Hillson has been elected as the district council’s chairman for 2015/16.
She said: “It is with the greatest honour and privilege to serve the district as chairman, especially so as I will be the first Irthlingborough district councillor to be the chairman in its 41 years of existence.
“It has been already been a truly humbling and wonderfully warm experience to encounter so many distinguished community leaders at every level who make an incredible difference to our district.”
In the year of the anniversary of the 75th Battle of Britain one of the chairman’s charities will be the Royal British Legion (in memory of Brian Walker, the former Royal British Legion chairman for Irthlingborough and Finedon).
She will also be raising funds for a Bilisoft photo therapy unit for the treatment of babies with jaundice for the Skylark children’s ward at Kettering General Hospital.
Cllr Hillson’s first event will be held on July 11, marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain featuring the Thrapston Town Brass Band, a fish and chip supper, the Michelle Randle dancers performing to Glenn Miller and local talented singer Tracey Barker leading a 1940s singsong.
The event with be held at the Frontier Centre in Irthlingborough, the first event to be held by a chairman in Irthlingborough’s history.
