Mystery diners select finalists in food and drink competition

Restaurants and pubs are hoping to be crowned the best in the county.

The finalists in the dining categories of this year’s Carlsberg UK Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards have been revealed.

They include The Raj, in Kettering, and The Mill at Oundle, in the restaurant of the year category, and The White Swan at Woodnewton in the pub or bar restaurant of the year section.

The finalists had to demonstrate a commitment to using local produce and were visited several times anonymously by mystery diners. Their scores considered factors such as ambience, speed of service, staff knowledge of the menu and its local sourcing as well as the quality of the food itself.

The finalists will now be revisited by a panel of expert judges and the public can also cast their vote by visiting Or fill in a coupon at a finalists’ venue. Voting closes on Sunday, September 30.

The competition is devised by Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership (NEP) and is in its fourth year.

The results are announced on November 14 at an awards dinner at The Wing, Silverstone.
