A county MP’s posterior has received so many admiring glances that she has been nominated for the famous Rear of the Year competition.

But there is no chance of Louise Mensch collecting the award if she does win because the Corby and East Northamptonshire MP has turned down the nomination as she doesn’t think her constituents would approve.

Mrs Mensch has been nominated for this year’s award and admirers have been voting for her via the online voting system at since the turn of the year.

But a Rear of the Year spokesman said: “The Corby and East Northants Tory MP’s spokesman says she cannot accept the nomination as her constituents might not view it favourably.

“Since the last two winners of the annual award – Fiona Bruce and Carol Vorderman – have demonstrated that winners have both beauty and brains, we don’t think too many of Louise’s local supporters would object to her involvement. But we’d be interested to hear from them in the hope that we may be able to persuade Louise to accept the nomination.”

Sally Allen, from award sponsors Wizard Jeans, said: “Louise is a glamorous woman with an interesting double life of MP and chick-lit novelist.

“I feel sure her constituents would be delighted if she were to win the 2012 Rear of the Year award.”

Mrs Mensch declined to comment on the nomination.

If she changes her mind, the awards will be presented at London’s Dorchester Hotel in Park Lane in June.

It will be the 30th year of the event, which has previously been won by the likes of Denise van Outen and Rachel Stevens.
