An MP met adults with learning difficulties, physical and sensory disabilities during a visit to one of Teamwork Trust’s three centres.
MP for Corby and East Northants Tom Pursglove was invited by the charity to meet some of its Corby members to talk about his role and give them a chance to raise any issues yesterday (Friday).
He was also able to look around the centre to find out about the charity’s enabling and education projects and activities, such as the ‘factory floor’ which provides members with experience of a real-life working environment.
Graham Marshall, operations director at Teamwork Trust, said: “We are delighted that MP Tom Pursglove was able to visit and our members have thoroughly enjoyed showing him around our Corby centre.
“The visit was not just about showing Mr Pursglove the work that we do at Teamwork Trust and talking to him about the issues in Corby with regards to our funding, but also about ensuring our members could talk to him about their issues.
“We feel people with mental health needs and learning and physical disabilities should be given a voice and the members he met all live within his constituency so their views and opinions are important.”
Mr Pursglove said: “I always enjoy the opportunity to meet organisations within my constituency and I am delighted to have been able to visit Teamwork Trust and see first-hand the important work they do.
“I particularly enjoyed meeting the members and giving them a chance to talk to me about local and national issues they have.
“People with learning difficulties, physical and sensory disabilities may not always feel they have a voice to raise concerns so today has been very worthwhile.
“I have also listened to the staff team’s frustrations regarding funding and would like to help take these forward at a national level.”
Teamwork Trust Northamptonshire also has centres in Wellingborough and Kettering and is a charitable organisation committed to ensuring everyone gets access to the same chances, choices and opportunities - whatever their individual needs or abilities.
