Motorway north of Northamptonshire reopens following fatal crash involving three lorries

The M6 in Leicestershire reopened to drivers just before 11am this morning following an overnight closure northbound between the M1 J19 / A14 and J1 due to a serious incident involving three lorries.

One man has died and another has been taken to hospital following a collision.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the northbound carriageway between Catthorpe Interchange and junction 1 shortly after 11.35pm on last night (Tuesday).

An ambulance crew, a paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle and a trauma team consisting of a trauma doctor and a critical care practitioner attended from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

A paramedic and a paramedic officer from East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “One of the lorry drivers was sadly confirmed dead at the scene.

“A second lorry driver had leg and back pain and bruising to his abdomen. He was given pain relief and was immobilised before being taken to University Hospital Coventry for further assessment and treatment.

“The third lorry driver was uninjured.”

The Highways Agency has said that delays are ‘easing’ now the motorway is open to traffic. Motorists were thanked for their patience.
