Fundraisers are celebrating 25 years of raising thousands of pounds to help beat cancer and support those affected by it.

Wellingborough and Rushden Macmillan Cancer Support Fundraising Committee has raised nearly £725,000 after being set up in 1989 by Beryl Gadd, who is now its life president.

Cash raised by the branch is used in the county, so groups, clubs and individuals are being asked to support them and hold an event this year in honour of the milestone.

Sally Fordyce from the branch said: “We are looking for local companies, schools and community groups to get behind our anniversary appeal and to hold an event for us, donate a prize or opportunity for a raffle or auction, or offer sponsorship for an event.

“We want the whole community to get behind us.”

The anniversary year started with a thanksgiving service in January, and there will be various events during 2014.

As there is currently no group in Kettering, the branch covers everywhere from Ecton to Raunds and Bozeat to Corby.
