Eight men and one woman have been arrested and computer equipment seized by police following raids across the county on Thursday.
Two were released without charge pending further inquiries.
A 76-year-old man from Corby, a 24-year-old man from Wellingborough, a 53-year-old man from Northampton, a 37-year-old man and 26-year-old woman from Rushden, a 28-year-old man from Towcester and a 59-year-old man from Watford village have all been released on conditional bail.
All nine were arrested under the Protection of Children Act as part of this month’s Operation Challenge High Impact initiative. All were arrested on suspicion of downloading and distributing indecent images of children.
The investigation was conducted by the On-Line Exploitation Team, part of the Force’s Protective Services Department. Teams of uniformed officers from the force’s response teams conducted the warrants.
Speaking shortly after the arrrests, DC Carole Walton, who led the investigation, said: “The arrests came at the end of a long investigation and I’m delighted with today’s results.
“We are fully committed to tackling what amounts to blatant child abuse.
“Behind every indecent image is a crime scene and an abused child.
“We will continue to hunt down individuals who prey on children in this way.”
