A train manager was spat at and hit in the face by a man travelling from London St Pancras to Corby.

The incident happened after the man was spotted sitting in first class at about 9.30am on Monday, August 8, without a valid ticket.

He was asked by the train’s manager to upgrade his ticket or move from first class, at which point he became abusive, spat at him and hit the train worker in the face with a rolled-up newspaper.

British Transport Police would like to speak to the man pictured as they believe he may have information about the incident.

PC James Turnball, investigating the incident, said: “This was a vile and wholly unacceptable attack on someone who was simply doing their job. Rail staff should be able to carry out their duties without fear of violence or abuse.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting 233 of 24/8.
