Man in court on attempted murder charge after Rushden stabbing

A 28-year-old man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed in Rushden.

Riza Guzelyurt, of no fixed address, has been charged with attempted murder, possession of an offensive weapon and witness intimidation following a serious assault on Thursday, March 19.

He was arrested following an incident in Coltsfoot Road, Rushden, where a 41-year-old woman from Rushden was stabbed.

The victim was taken by air ambulance to University Hospital Coventry where she was in a serious but stable condition.

Guzelyurt appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court last Friday morning and was remanded until a hearing in early April.

Police are treating this as an isolated incident, but would like to hear from anyone with any information about the attack.

Detective Inspector Ali Farr said: “A man has been arrested and charged with this offence; however, as part of the ongoing investigation, we are appealing for information and would particularly like to speak to anyone who may have any knowledge about the recent whereabouts of Riza Guzelyurt.

“Please call police on 101 if you have any information.

“We believe this to be an isolated incident and local officers are carrying out extra patrols in the area to help reassure the local community.”
