Man arrested on suspicion of child abduction in missing Kettering teenager investigation

Police investigating the disappearance of a 15-year-old Kettering girl have arrested a man on suspicion of child abduction.

Veronica Sbircea left her home in Kettering on the evening of Thursday, July 21 and there has been no confirmed sighting of her since Thursday, July 28.

As part of the investigation, officers executed a search warrant at an address in the Spencer area of Northampton last Friday.

Those inquiries led to a 26-year-old man from Romford, Essex, being arrested the following day on suspicion of child abduction. He was later released on bail until next month.

Police have now released a CCTV image from the last known sighting of the teenager in Brighton Terrace, Brixton, at about 5.15pm on July 28.

A team of about a dozen detectives have been working around the clock in both London and Northamptonshire to try to locate Veronica but fears are increasingly growing for her safety.

Det Supt Elliot Foskett, who is leading the investigation team, said: “Veronica has been missing now for almost three weeks and despite the intensive efforts of everyone working on this case, we’re still no nearer to finding her.

“Your family want you home and are worried sick by your disappearance.”

Veronica, who also goes by the name of Rachel, is white, 5ft, with long straight black hair and brown eyes.

Originally from the London area, she attended Kingsmead School in Southbury Road, Enfield.
