A 59-year-old man had to be airlifted to hospital yesterday (Monday) after he was injured when a digging machine tipped over and trapped his leg.

Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) was called to the scene of the incident, which happened near Brackley, just before 4pm, because of the serious nature of the patient’s injuries.

A spokesman for the air ambulance said: “The on-board doctor sedated the patient and the crew administered pain relief, before using their specialist extrication skills to free the injured leg.”

The WNAA crew then flew the patient to the major trauma centre at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire for specialist treatment.
