Macmillan coffee morning held in memory of Raunds chef

Jesters Cafe held a charity fundraiser for Macmillan in memory of chef Daniel Webster who died of cancer in January 2018 at the age of 25

About 100 customers attended the event on Friday at Jesters in Brook Street, Raunds, in honour of Daniel Webster who worked in the kitchen.

Waitress and friend Katie Davies said: “A year ago in September whilst he was undergoing treatment he said he wanted to do some charity fundraising when he got better.

“Unfortunately, he wasn’t well enough to hold an event so we held one for him.”

Daniel died on January 4 this year.

Fellow chef Hannah Archer added: “It’s gone really well – he’d have been very happy.”

Daniel was a professional clown using the name ‘Tip Top’ and Katie said: “Dan was incredible – funny, talented and a self-taught musician.

“He was devoted to his family.”

Katie and Hannah made a guitar shaped cake in honour of Daniel’s musical talent.

Andrea Wray, owner of Jesters, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who supported the coffee morning, especially Bookers Cash and Carry who donated coffee, Adam’s Apple for the milk, Fresh Ideas for the cakes, Brian and Beryl who donated cakes and Simon Nay who played his guitar to entertain the customers.”

Cllr Richard Levell, mayor of Raunds, said: “When I was asked to help I was happy to support the event and spend the morning serving customers.

“It was great to meet the people of Raunds and I’ve really enjoyed my shift.

“I’ve been offered a job as a waiter at least three times this morning.”
