Modernisation of the branch means that customers will now be able to get a range of Post Office services from one open-plan counter, one screened counter and a Post Office service point beside the retail till offering selected services.
The two main counters will be open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5.30pm and on Saturday from 9am until 12.30pm.
The Post Office service point will be open for longer hours from 7am until 7.30pm Monday to Saturday.
It is an extra 17 hours per week with the branch opening significantly earlier and closing later much later in the day.
Post Office area manager Michael Brennan said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.
“We are confident this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the community will meet customer needs.
“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.
“The investment marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
The branch will close at 12.30pm on Thursday, September 24, for the refurbishment to take place and re-open at 1pm on Monday, October 5.
Alternative branches for customers to use during the closure include Rushden Post Office in Eaton Walk, Rushden, or Irthlingborough Post Office in High Street, Irthlingborough.
