A list of more than 50 Corby companies which welcome breastfeeding mothers has been released.
Following the agreement of the Breastfeeding Policy and Guidance last year, Corby Council has now produced and released the list of companies across the borough which welcome breastfeeding mothers.
The list includes national chains such as Boots, Burger King and McDonald’s, as well as the Corby Candle, the swimming pool and the Schooner Fish & Chip Shop.
It has been produced to encourage companies to support breastfeeding mothers and for breastfeeding mothers to feel as comfortable as possible when breastfeeding while out and about.
So far a total of 66 businesses have registered their support and Corby Council is keen to encourage more.
Deputy leader of Corby Council Cllr Jean Addison said: “As a former nurse I am very much championing this support for breastfeeding mothers and I am very pleased to see so many companies sign up and welcome breastfeeding in their premises.
”Breastfeeding is shown to have important health benefits for both mother and child and it should be supported.
“Through our Breastfeeding Policy and Guidance we have already committed to promoting the benefits of breastfeeding, supporting mothers who wish to breastfeed in public areas and we have agreed the designation of rooms within some council premises in which breastfeeding mothers are welcome to use when accessing council services.”
