After a goalless first half, the Poppies took control after the break in Suffolk with Lindon Meikle opening the scoring before he set up Aaron O’Connor who grabbed his first goal of the season in his first start since recovering from a serious knee injury. And Meikle wrapped up Kettering’s ninth win of the league campaign with a fine long-range strike. It all left boss Law happy with another good day at the office while a sixth clean sheet of the season and a third in a row in the league also didn’t go unnoticed.“It’s another clean sheet and it was a solid performance,” the Kettering manager said.“There was nothing really in the game in the first half but we played well in the second and we scored three very good goals.“It was good to see Lindon get a couple and he also set up Aaron’s goal as well. Lindon really ran the show in the second half.“We are treating every league game, regardless of where it is and who it is against, with real importance because we do want to keep doing well in the cups as well.“The clean sheets we have been picking up of late are particularly pleasing. We are looking very solid and comfortable at times.“We are up against teams who are working extremely hard against us but we are grinding out results, which is good to see.”The Poppies will now focus on knockout action over the next week as they take on league rivals King’s Lynn Town in the second round of the Southern League Challenge Cup at Latimer Park on Tuesday night before heading to Stamford in the second qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Trophy next Saturday. The Linnets were 3-0 winners at Alvechurch this weekend following the return of previous boss Ian Culverhouse. But Law looks set to tweak his team selection for Tuesday’s game.He added: “I am sure their manager will want to look at a couple of things. And we will certainly look at changing it up a little bit.“We have two cup games this week and we are wary that in the week or so that follows the Stamford game, we have got huge league matches against Royston and Stourbridge coming up so we want to do all we can to make sure we keep everyone fit and refreshed.”
