People hoping to land a job at the new Tesco store in Corby queued up to make an application at a recruitment event today (January 7) at the town’s library.
The store, off St Mark’s Road, opens on January 24, and managers announced on Friday that there were still more than 50 vacancies to fill.
Today Tesco staff were on hand at the library in the Cube, helping people make online applications for the positions available, including check-out staff, warehouse workers, security roles and jobs in the store’s bakery.
There will be a similar session at the library tomorrow, from 8.30am until 6pm.
Night trading manager Richard Garvie said: “We have been very busy and we expect to fill all the available vacancies.
“I would like to thank staff at the JobCentre and the library staff for all their help.
“We have helping people who have been out of work for a long time and who are not familiar with making online job applications.
“We have also seen people who have no work experience but who have all the skills we are looking for.”
Keith Hemmings, 24, of Trinity Walk, Corby, was one of those at the library to apply for a job.
He said: “I was made redundant just before Christmas from Argos, so I’m hoping I’ll be successful in getting a job with Tesco.”
