Time is running out to nominate those who have the spirit of Corby and make a difference in other people’s lives.
But there are a few days left if you know someone who should be nominated for the 2015 Spirit of Corby Awards.
The awards are Corby Council’s annual celebration of everything good about Corby, its community and the spirit of the people that make it so special.
Each year the awards highlight the great contribution residents make to the town and the special talents they have.
The awards are also a way of thanking the unsung heroes in the community who go above and beyond.
Last year’s overall Spirit of Corby winner was Jean Devenney for her voluntary work at Lakelands Day Care Hospice, spending hours teaching and encouraging patients, fellow volunteers and staff the arts of sewing, design, jewellery making, and painting while creating masses of handmade items for fundraisers to sell to ensure much needed money goes back into the hospice.
After winning the award, Jean said: “Winning my Spirit of Corby awards really did make my year.”
The categories are the Young Spirit of Corby Award sponsored by Savoy Cinemas, Club Spirit Award sponsored by RBW, Community Spirit Award sponsored by Northamptonshire Police, Creative Spirit Award sponsored by Quantum Print, Educational Spirit Award sponsored by Tresham College of Further and Higher Education and the Environmental Spirit Award.
Corby Council leader Tom Beattie said: “The Spirit of Corby Awards is the perfect chance to highlight the efforts of certain people in the borough, the ones who go above and beyond for the good of the community.”
Once all nominations are in, an independent panel will select a shortlist for each award.
The shortlist will then be announced and people can vote for the winners.
The overall Spirit of Corby Award will be chosen by an independent panel from the winners of the other categories.
The winners will be announced at the awards night being held on Tuesday, September 22, at The Core.
Nominations can be submitted by filling out a form at www.corby.gov.uk/spiritofcorby, or by picking up a form from the help desk on the ground floor of the Corby Cube, Corby East Midlands International Pool, Lodge Park Sports Centre, East Carlton Country Park and various community centres across the borough.
Last year’s winners are not eligible to be nominated for the same award again and the deadline to submit your nominations is 5pm on Monday (August 24).
