Lack of custom shuts clothes shop

A CHILDREN’S shop whose owner campaigned for cheaper parking has closed due to a lack of footfall in a newly pedestrianised street.

Honeykitten in Market Street, Kettering, closed last week.

A notice in the window from owner Sam Hitchings, who collected hundreds of signatures calling on Kettering Council to lower parking charges to increase custom, said: “It has not been possible to remain open given the current lack of footfall in the area.”

Trade dropped during work to pedestrianise Market Street last summer.

Paul Thomas, of Kettering Council, said: “Times are challenging but Kettering still has a lower than average number of vacant shops and more shops are planned to open soon which is good news for the town.”
