Kelly Spencer’s world was turned upside down in February after she was diagnosed with the condition aged just 40 after losing her sight in one eye.

But rather than let it beat her, she started a blog on Facebook to try and help others with the condition by discussing her symptoms.

Earlier this month she organised a ‘Warrior Walk’ at the town’s Wicksteed Park with people walking three miles for her chosen charity, the MS Society.

She said: “It was a fabulous day, [there was] so much support and quite a few people joined the MS society and became volunteers.

“We raised £1,877.50 on the day then we have another fundraiser at The Woolcomber on Sunday, September 4, which is when we will draw the raffle.”

By raising more than £1,000 the total will be matched by Barclays - making the figure closer to £4,000.

Speaking after her diagnosis, the part-time carer said: “When they said to me that I had MS I did not know anyone that had it and I felt really on my own.

“I looked on the web but it was too much for me to take in, it was all clinical information and nothing said how I’d actually feel.

“I thought about making the Facebook page and just did it and it’s taken off from there.

People have said that they have the same symptoms as me and shared their own and it’s really helped not only me but hopefully others.”

At her next fundraiser in September there will be a BBQ, live entertainment, bouncy castle and and face painting.
