Kettering pub hosting free festival for cancer charity

The Shire Horse will hold the festival on November 10 and 11 after the event was held for the first time last year in memory of local teenager Antony Keaney, who died of cancer aged just 21.

Antony was a keen musician and his friends and family wanted to organise an event that he would have enjoyed to support the work of trust, who were extremely supportive during his illness.

The event was so successful that it was decided to run it again this year and local musicians, friends and family are again giving up their time to provide a fun weekend of music and laughter.

Sunday afternoon is dedicated to family activities such as crafts and face painting and the whole event is free to attend.

Jim Morrison, landlord of the Shire Horse, said: “Last year highlighted the community spirit that still exists in a town like Kettering.

“Family, friends and strangers coming together to help raise funds and awareness of the struggle these kids face on a daily basis.

“We hope this year we can match or surpass the success we enjoyed at last year’s ShireFest weekend, where we raised more than £2,300.”

Local companies JML Plumbing, Potbelly Brewery and Sign of the Times are sponsoring the event, with all proceeds going to Teenage Cancer Trust.

The Shire Horse re-opened in December 2016 as a family and dog-friendly local pub, specialising in real ale and cider.

It was completely renovated and is now owned by a local company, Olde England, and is managed by well-known landlord Jim.
