A Kettering man struggled to hide his delight after he won £35,000 at a national poker tournament.
Telephone engineer Sunil Mistri, 33, took first place at the Grand Prix Poker Tour tournament at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, November 29.
Sunil, who has been playing poker for 10 years, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have won.
“It’s amazing to have taken the top prize in a field of more than 3,000 players.
“The £35,000 will come in handy – I am going to have a good Christmas.
“I am also looking forward to trying to make it a win double at Old Trafford in January.”
The tournament attracted players from all over the country with its £250,000 guaranteed prize pool for the low buy-in of just £70, and was sponsored by online poker site partypoker and Dusk Till Dawn Casino in Nottingham.
Dusk Till Dawn owner Rob Yong said: “With partypoker’s support we hope this Grand Prix Poker Tour will be the start of something big.
“Sunil played brilliant poker to win the tournament.
“He thoroughly deserved his success.”
