Kettering drink-driver banned after crashing into signpost on the A1

A drink-driver from Kettering called police from a hotel after losing control of his car and crashing into a signpost on the A1.

Prosecuting, Daniel Pietryka said Dexter called police from the nearby Travelodge and told them he had lost control of his Ford Fiesta and hit a signpost.

He failed a breath test at the scene, telling police he had drunk two pints of alcohol and had breathalysed himself on a machine which told him he was under the limit.

Dexter, who was not represented, told magistrates he lost control of his car because a tyre had blown.

He said he had hit a ‘cut down’ post.

He was banned from dirivng for 18 months, fined £500 and told to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £50.
