Children in Kettering are being invited to create a portrait of their mum and be in the running to have their artwork framed.
The Newlands Shopping Centre, has invited children from local schools to enter their competition, which is being held ahead of Mothering Sunday, March 30.
Entries can include portrayals of children’s mums in whatever materials they like. Class teachers have been sent a project pack to help spark ideas.
“Kettering already has a great art gallery named after the famous Victorian landscape painter Alfred East, so there is obviously some home-grown talent in the area,” said the shopping centre’s manager Neil Griffin.
The closing date for entries is Wednesday, March 12, when the portraits will be judged and the best entries displayed in the centre.
Prizes will be awarded in two age categories – those aged five to seven and those aged eight to 11 – with each winner receiving a £25 gift voucher for themselves and a gift box for their mother.
Their original portraits will be framed as a very personal gift for Mother’s Day.
Mr Griffin added: “We will also upload all the portraits onto our Facebook page so that everyone can see how talented the children are.
“This very public display of affection can be viewed from Tuesday, March 18. The six portraits with the most combined likes and shares by 9am on Thursday, March 27 will have their portraits framed and we will choose one of these six to win a £25 gift voucher.
There will also be a £100 prize for the school whose entries are deemed to be the best.
The competition is open to all local children between the ages of five and 11. Entry forms are available from the Newlands Shopping Centre by calling 01536 411920.
