A care home chef has won a national cooking crown.
Paul Burch, 24, chef of Elm Bank Care Home in Kettering, has won the care home’s owner Avery Healthcare’s Masterchef competition.
Mr Burch, of Kettering, who won £200 and an all-expenses-paid trip to the Costa del Sol, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have won this competition. However, it was a challenge as the other chefs were extremely talented.
“I think we all felt the pressure as we progressed through the competition.”
The chef beat three other regional finalists in a cook-off at the Red Lion in East Haddon in front of the pub’s Michelin-starred chef Adam Gray, Avery’s managing director John Strowbridge and its commercial director Ian Matthews in May.
Mr Burch said the care home involves residents in planning menus in a bid to make dining a social experience.
Mr Strowbridge said: “Paul Burch is a deserving winner. The standard in the competition was extremely high and I am sure Paul will agree that it was a tough process.”
