GRAB your bucket, spade and bikini – a town’s marketplace will once again be transformed into a beach and volleyball course this summer.
Kettering Council has announced big plans for events this year at the town’s Market Place.
These include the return of the town’s annual Kettering by the Sea celebration for four weeks in the summer, and an urban beach volleyball tournament on July 28.
Alongside these one-off events visitors will also be treated to specialist markets, live music, and children’s entertainment.
Councillor Steve Bellamy, portfolio holder for community and culture, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that this year the Market Place will take centre stage for a number of fun and exciting events we are planning.
“The wide range of free activities taking place ensures that there’s something for everyone, so we look forward to seeing you on the Market Place this year.”
The provisional dates for Kettering by the Sea are a four-week period between Saturday, July 21, to Saturday, August 18. It will be the eighth year that Kettering is turned into a beach for youngsters to enjoy fun in the sun.
Valerie Hitchman, head of community services at Kettering Council, said: “Every year we look to provide more activities for people across the borough and the activities we have lined up for the Market Place will be a fabulous addition to a programme already bursting with choice.”
The council has revealed that the Olympics will form a major part of this year’s festivities at the Market Place.
More details on sports themed events will be revealed in the spring.

The Market Place will also play host to this year’s Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile, with the run starting there.
Registration is already open for the fundraiser, and people can join hundreds of others to make a difference for good causes this year.
