The move means customers will be able to register a birth or death or give notice of marriage or civil partnership at Kettering, Wellingborough and Daventry libraries.

But marriage and civil partnership ceremonies, naming ceremonies and renewals of vows will continue to be held at the current venues, the Municipal Offices in Kettering, Swanspool House in Wellingborough and Daventry District Council offices.

Citizenship ceremonies will continue to be held at County Hall in Northampton.

The move completes the programme of work to relocate all the county’s registration offices to their nearest libraries, where customers registering births will be offered a library card for their baby at the time of the registration appointment along with a free book highlighting the benefits of reading to very young babies and another one to share with their baby.

Customers will also be introduced to various wellbeing services delivered by First for Wellbeing, which was formed on April 1, 2016, as a community interest company owned by Northamptonshire County Council, Northamptonshire Health Foundation Trust and the University of Northampton, to improve the wellbeing of people in Northamptonshire.

These services include support to stop smoking, cut down drinking and lose weight, improve financial, social or emotional wellbeing, provide advice on a range of housing-related or employment issues and provide access to adult learning opportunities.

County council cabinet member for public health and wellbeing Cllr Sylvia Hughes said: “Libraries in Northamptonshire are run by First for Wellbeing for Northamptonshire County Council and are increasingly becoming a hub for a wide range of community and wellbeing services.

“Moving registration offices into libraries will make it easier for people to access those services during extended opening hours, where there is a huge range of books and other resources and advice and support for the whole community, all in one place.”

Registration services will be relocated from the following dates:

Daventry Library – from Wednesday, March 22

Wellingborough Library – from Thursday, March 23

Kettering Library – from Monday, March 27

All registrations are by appointment only, which can be booked by visiting www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/appointments.
