JUDO: Local players enjoy success in Sheffield

Players from Shudan Wellingborough Judo Club and Kettering Premier Judo Club enjoyed success at the British Schools Championship finals in Sheffield.

Shudan Wellingborough Judo Club's Megan Price was a winner at the British Schools Championship

The Wellingborough club were celebrating a gold medal for Huxlow Science College student Megan Price in the girls year eight/nine under 57kg category.

And there was gold medal glory for Kettering as well as Rory Tyrrell, who attends Lodge Park Academy in Corby, came out on top of a group of 21 in the boys year eight/nine under 46 kg division.

There was further medal success for members of the Wellingborough club with Max Cheung taking silver in his division while Billy Price secured bronze in the over 55kg division, both in the boys year six/seven.

Erin Palmer was also in action and was unfortunate not to medal.

Tyrrell beat one of his biggest rivals on the national circuit in the semi-final and was losing in the final by half knockout before getting the score back and going on to win by knockout.

The win meant Tyrrell became the only Kettering player ever to win the British Schools title twice.

Other members in action were Millie Hillyard, who came fifth after losing in the bronze medal fight off in the year eight/nine girls under 52kg division while Ewan Hull was unplaced in the year eight/nine boys under 66 kg division.
