A young jam maker from Stanwick has won a national competition.
Matthew Foster, 12, won the children’s class of the Real Jam Festival.
The competition is organised by the Women’s Institute and has been running for four years. The judges tasted more than 330 jars of jam and chutneys before picking the winners.
Matthew was following in the footsteps of his brother, Christopher, who won the competition two years ago at the age of eight.
Matthew’s winning jam was damson and apple. His brother came a close second with his spicy plum jam.
Both boys also won bronze in the World Jampionships in the summer and Matthew is the joint children’s winner in the World’s Original Marmalade awards.
