Inspector Morse author who taught at Corby school dies aged 86

The author of the Inspector Morse books, who used to teach in Corby, has died.

Colin Dexter died at his home in Oxford this morning (Tuesday) aged 86.

He taught classics at Corby Grammar School - which is now a Tresham College campus - from 1959 to 1966.

After retiring from teaching he started his series of Inspector Morse novels, a series of 13 which ran from 1975 to 1999.

The novels were made into a TV series by ITV, with 33 two-hour episodes airing between 1987 and 2000.

He was awarded the OBE in 2000 for services to literature.
