Raunds Town Council has been given a grant of £10,000 from Awards For All, which is part of the Big Lottery Fund, to improve the play area at Webb Road.

The council will also be investing a further £20,000 in the play area to ensure that it is completely refurbished.

It comes as work to improve the play area at Saxon Hall has also been completed and a spokesman for the town council said the equipment is already being well used.

And it is hoped that young people in the town will soon benefit from a new youth service set to be launched next month.

Working with the Wellingborough-based specialist youth work provider, Service Six, the council will be offering sessions on a Wednesday night at Saxon Hall.

Information provided by Service Six at a recent town council meeting said its aims include providing a venue for children and young people to meet and take part in activities, to build healthy and meaningful relationships between group members and leaders, as well as providing a stimulating environment for youngsters to have fun and meet new people.

Other aims include consulting group members on future youth service provision and to encourage them to get involved with town activities and make a positive contribution to their community.

And for any youngsters, volunteer groups, businesses or schools looking to give something back to the community, a Clean for the Queen event is taking place in Raunds on Saturday, March 5.

The nationwide clean-up event is aimed at cleaning the country in time for Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday later this year.

Anyone interested in joining the Raunds clean-up event can call the council on 01933 622087.
