Conkers are being collected and techniques honed in preparation for the 2014 World Conker Championships.

This year’s event includes a commentator from BBC Radio Five Live, Mike Sewell, as the guest MC and an appearance by writer and actress Katherine Jakeways.

The event, which raises thousands of pounds for charity each year, is being held at the Shuckburgh Arms in Southwick, near Oundle, on Sunday, October 12.

It starts at 10.30am and finishes at 3pm. Admission is £4 for adults and £2 for children and senior citizens.

Family tickets for two adults and up to four children cost £10.

As well as the competition to find King Conker, there will be live music in the pub until late, a guide dog demonstration team, Peterborough Morris Men, traditional pub games and The Balls Up Jugglers holding workshops from 11.15am until 2.15pm.
