Former pupils of Weavers School in Wellingborough enjoyed a well-attended reunion at Whitworth FC’s Sports and Social Club in London Road, on June 13.
The event, organized by Barbara Meunier (née White), Thomas Alcindor, Elaine Richards and Donna White, was a sellout, with 300 former pupils, now aged between 45 and 55, in attendance.
Some of these had travelled from far and wide – Barbara Meunier is now a resident of Lyon in France.
The party was augmented by 18 former teachers, including a former headmaster of Weavers School, Alan Wortley, mustered together by Carol Kirby, herself a former teacher at the school.
Music was provided by The Mid Sensation Soul Band, led by saxophonist Rodney Boatswain, another former pupil and a there was also a disco held in the marquee.
The clubhouse and the very large new marquee were provided free of charge by Whitworths FC Sports Social Football club.
Former pupils donated the raffle prizes, the cost of the disco and the printing costs of the tickets. With few overheads, ticket sales and the raffle resulted in a total of £1,600 being raised for charity, which will be divided between Cransley Hospice and the new cancer treatment centre at Northampton Hospital.
A very good time was had by all and two worthy local charities will now benefit from the joy of old friends meeting in convivial surroundings.
