Hundreds of pounds raised for Kettering Hospital's breast care unit

The mayor of Wellingborough Cllr Malcolm Waters and wife Veronica visited the unit with Cllr Waters’ brother Mossy Waters and his wife Lynn last week.

They had two cheques totalling £765 to present to staff at the unit, which is where Lynn has been treated.

A charity Backbeat event held at Rushden Town Bowls Club in October raised £500 and a further £265 was raised by a bake-off event at Splash Pool in Rushden.

Lynn said: “The Backbeat event was a fun night.

“And at Splash, the staff were doing the baking and customers were buying the cake.

“They sold an awful lot of cake to raise that amount of money.”

Lynn described the treatment she received at the breast care unit as ‘excellent’ and said they wanted to give something back to the unit for the care and support she was given.

As mayor of Wellingborough, Cllr Waters was keen to support his brother and sister-in-law as they raised money for the unit, which treats patients from Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough and Rushden.

Following a tour of the unit during last week’s visit, Cllr Waters said: “It is a fantastic centre and a huge asset to Kettering Hospital.”
