Housing proposed for former substation site in Raunds

An application has been made to construct two three-bedroom houses in the redevelopment of a substation site in Midland Road, Raunds.

According to the plans, the area presently houses a redundant electric substation site where the electical facility has been removed.

It is a brownfield site and mostly overgrown and covered in scrub.

The proposed scheme would include removal of the existing scrub and trees, construction of two houses which would both be two-storey, and pedestrian and vehicle access from Midland Road with provision for four car parking spaces.

Documents submitted on behalf of the applicant George Oxford say the new buildings are designed to have a ‘generally discreet and modern appearance.’

They also state: “Our application seeks to create a small and sustainable residential environment on this brownfield site, using a combination of quality durable, traditional and modern materials in a blend that will create a distinctive style.

“We have taken particular care to retain the few moderate quality trees in the overall scheme design, and consider that this redundant and overgrown site offers a unique opportunity for a distinctive and modest residential development sympathetic to the scale of the adjacent buildings, and to the local context.”

The plans say the proposed scheme is designed to be in-keeping with the recently approved neighbouring housing scheme.
