Hospital's work recognised at leading events

Kettering General Hospital held two major national events last week in recognition of its role in helping children and adolescents who have gynaecological problems.

On Thursday, January 28, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists - in collaboration with the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology - held a day long annual scientific meeting at the Prince William Postgraduate Centre at KGH with nationally acclaimed speakers.

The following day, the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology (BritSPAG) held a training day at the Prince William Centre.

Kettering General Hospital has one of the most long established Paediatric Adolescent Gynaecology (PAG) services in the country and sees patients both from within Northamptonshire and also further afield.

KGH consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology Mr Paul Wood, who is responsible for the PAG service at KGH, said: “It was a great honour to be chosen as the venue for these two events.

“It is recognition by the national bodies of the contribution to paediatric and adolescent gynaecology that this hospital has made since we first established our PAG service in 1993.

“Paediatric and adolescent gynaecology is a specialist 
area of care that involves a wide range of conditions including congenital disorders, sexual and development problems, hormonal conditions and safeguarding issues 
from the newborn period to adolescence.

“The conferences involved leading clinicians from across the country who came together to exchange information on the latest developments in this field.”

Mr Wood was named as president elect of the European Association of Paediatric Adolescent Gynaecology in September 2014, a role that he will hold for three years from 2017 following the next European Congress to be held in Lithuania.

Mr Wood is also the Immediate Past Chair of the British Society and a member of the Board of the International Federation of PAG. He also is international editor for the Journal of Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology.
