A horserider was airlifted to hospital yesterday after she fell from her horse while participating in an event.
About 10 per cent of all missions attended by the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) are equestrian-related and with the weather improving, the life-saving service is expecting to see an increase in such outdoor activity-related injuries.
Yesterday’s accident happened at about 6.15pm at Ashton Le Walls Eventing Centre in the county.
The patient, a woman believed to be in her 30s, was examined by a doctor on the scene and they believed she had a pelvic injury.
The on-scene medics then applied a pelvic splint and immobilised her so she was ready to be airlifted immediately.
The WNAA crew attended the accident and gave pain relief to the casualty before airlifting her to University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.
