Volunteers are needed to help keep a popular walking and cycling route clean.

East Northamptonshire Council is appealing for volunteers to join officers and the council’s waste contractors, Kier, to help clean up the Rushden stretch of the Greenway next month, as part of Keep Britain Tidy’s biggest-ever tidy-up.

The Greenway Big Tidy Up will take place on Saturday, October 11, from 9am to midday. Anyone who can spare a few hours to help is asked to meet at Splash Pool car park, where an officer will provide them with gloves, bags and pickers.

Waste manager at East Northamptonshire Council, Charlotte Tompkins, said: “Our waste management team works hard to ensure that the district is kept clean, tidy and safe but we can always do with a helping hand to keep on top of things.

“We’re really happy to support Keep Britain Tidy and organise a Big Tidy Up of the Greenway in Rushden, which is well used by residents and visitors. So come along for a fun morning and help to keep the Greenway litter free for all to enjoy.”

People who think they might be able to go along and help can email with the subject “Big Tidy Up” or call 01832 742026.
