A purpose-built state of the art health centre in Corby will officially open its doors this week.
The Corby Urgent Care Centre will officially opened by Professor Sir Bruce Keogh KBE, National Medical Director, NHS England on Tuesday, August 6 at 12pm.
The centre, which has been open since October last year, gives patients in Corby and surrounding areas immediate access to a doctor led urgent care service.
Ninety-five per cent of patients having their initial assessment in less than 15 minutes and 100 per cent compliance with the four hour A&E target. There are facilities for urgent blood testing, x-ray and ultrasound as well as observation couches where patients can be assessed and treated.
This service is for those patients who have a condition that is too urgent to wait for the next available GP appointment.
Dr Stuart Maitland-Knibb, Clinical Lead for the Urgent Care Centre said; “The Urgent Care Centre bridges the gap between primary care and emergency medicine - offering safe, effective diagnosis and treatment with the use of facilities that before have only been available in hospital.”
Dr Peter Wilczynski, Chair of NHS Corby Clinical Commissioning Group said; “We know that patients want to receive care closer to home and the Urgent Care Centre is just one way to ensure patients get care when they need it which in the past may have necessitated a 16-mile round trip to Kettering Hospital A&E department.
“The centre is not a replacement for a GP in treating day to day health concerns, or the Accident and Emergency Department for life- threatening illnesses and injuries. It provides the patient an alternative option when they need medical treatment fast.
“The Urgent Care Centre has already proved to be impacting on reducing the number of unnecessary A&E Admissions. We are working on a number of initiatives to manage urgent care closer to home and are proud to be part of the official launch to really put the Urgent Care Centre on the map.”
The unit is open 8am to 8pm 365 days a year on a walk-in basis. We are situated opposite the Boating Lake in Corby on the Willowbrook Health Campus.
