A consultation into funding cuts at children’s centres takes place in Corby this teatime.
Members of the public are being urged by protest group 4Corby Children to have their say on the proposed cuts that would see a 25 per cent reduction in funding for centres.
Several children’s centres in other parts of Northamptonshire are set to shut, but it is from Corby that the most vociferous protests have emerged.
Campaigners say that the proposed Northamptonshire County Council cuts will mean that groups for all but the most vulnerable families will end at Pen Green, Kingswood, Exeter and Woodnewton Children’s Centres.
Hundreds of local people turned up to a protest outside the Corby Cube at the weekend.
Community development worker Sandra Mole said “The cuts are so short-sighted and I think it’s wrong to take away these services.
“Corby has built up a fantastic repuation when it comes to children’s centres and to cut it would be disastrous.
“The maths just don’t stack up.”
The consultation takes place at the Cube from 4pm until 6pm. Councillors will be on hand to answer questions.
