The organisers of this year’s Crazy Hats Walk are smiling but their postman might not be so happy – there were so many postal entries on Monday they wouldn’t fit through the charity’s letterbox!

Crazy Hats founder Glennis Hooper said: “The postman had to knock on the door so we could collect the post. It was a lovely start to a Monday morning.”

The annual fundraising walk round Wicksteed Park, being held this year on Sunday, March 24, has a number of generous corporate sponsors, including Northampton-based Avon Cosmetics, which is sponsoring the event for the sixth year.

The walk is part of the UK leg of Avon’s global fundraising programme – Avon’s Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer – a worldwide series of events which has seen more than 1.7 million people from around the world raise more than 14 million US dollars.

In the UK, Avon has raised more than £16m so far for life-saving breast cancer research, education and care.

Scott Schlackman, the general manager of Avon UK, said: “As a local company we are very proud to be supporting such a fantastic local charity again this year.

“We have supported Crazy Hats for six years now and every year the partnership grows more rewarding. Improving women’s lives is what Avon does best, and through our work with Crazy Hats we know we are making a difference right on our doorstep.”

Glennis said: “We’re so grateful for the continued support Avon provides; thanks to their help last year’s Crazy Hats walk saw 3,000 people take part, raising an impressive £55,000 in just one day.”

AO Copy of Wellingborough helps the charity with its printing for the walk.

Other corporate sponsors include Weetabix, Walkers Crisps and Bookers.

Britian’s Got Talent winners Ashleigh and Pudsey are this year’s special guests.
