Gyms at Kettering pool and Desborough Leisure Centre set for £85,000 improvement boost

Kettering Council is funding £85,000 of improvements to the gyms at Kettering's swimming pool and Desborough Leisure Centre.

The financial boost is in partnership with Legacy Leisure, and will provide the latest Precor resistance and cardiovascular equipment, as well as replacement free weight benches, free weights and floor mats.

Mat Tilley, general manager for Legacy Leisure, said: “The investment that the local authority has made in the health of the community through the development of the fitness facilities at Kettering Swimming Pool and Desborough Leisure Centre is commendable.

“Local residents and existing users will be able to develop healthier, fitter lifestyles in the hearts of their communities.

“The aim of Legacy Leisure is to provide fitness facilities that motivate, encourage and help to maintain healthy lifestyles.

“We will be offering affordable membership packages for those who want to exercise regularly, and customers will also be able to use the centres on a pay-as-you-go basis.”

To ensure that the fitness equipment installations run with minimal disruption, the gym at Kettering Swimming Pool will be closed on the March 21/22, with Desborough Leisure Centre closed on March 23/24.

While the installations are taking place, members can access the gym facilities at the other centre free of charge as part of their direct debit package or at the normal pay-as-you-go price.

Shirley Plenderleith, head of public Services at Kettering Council, said: “This investment will benefit existing users of these facilities whilst at the same time, help attract new users, encouraging more people to live a healthy and active lifestyle.”

The newly refurbished gyms at Kettering Swimming Pool and Desborough Leisure Centre will hold an open day on Sunday, April 9.

Local residents are encouraged to visit to try out the new equipment and take advantage of a range of facilities that will be available on the day.

The new equipment will offer existing members and local residents the opportunity to work out and get fit by using the latest, state of the art fitness equipment.
