Guide has electric advice for guitarists

A Corby musician has compiled a step-by-step guide to building your own guitar.

Paul Balmer, who lives on the Oakley Vale estate, has written Build Your Own Electric Guitar as part of the Haynes manual series.

Mr Balmer, who has worked with guitars for 50 years, has also included his top 10 tips which include: buy the best wood you can afford – ash, alder and maple are the best options – and only ever fit the best strings as they tune up and sound better for longer.

The book also contains a case study of Queen guitarist Brian May’s homemade Red Special guitar.

Build Your Own Electric Guitar costs £21.99 and can be bought from all good bookshops.
